Top three contenders to replace Faf Du Plessis as RCB captain

RCB is yet to win an IPL trophy in 16 seasons

Faf Du Plessis, the player from South Africa, is currently leading Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) in the ongoing IPL 2024 in India. The 39-year-old has a high chance of retiring from T20 Cricket this year. Faf du Plessis took on the role of captain for the Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) in the IPL 2024 season. His captaincy strategy for the 2024 season focused on building a side that could deliver improved performances, especially at their home ground, the Chinnaswamy Stadium.

Du Plessis emphasized the importance of enhancing their performance at home and strategically acquired players during the auction to achieve optimal team balance. Under du Plessis’ captaincy, RCB made significant auction like Cameron Green, Alzarri Joseph, Lockie Ferguson, Yash Dayal and Swapnil Singh to strengthen their squad for the season.

The team’s top order, comprising players like du Plessis, Virat Kohli, Glenn Maxwell, and Rajat Patidar, was highlighted as a strength by the head coach, Andy Flower. Du Plessis’ experience as a captain in the IPL and internationally brought a strategic approach to RCB’s leadership, aiming to guide the team to success in the 2024 season. Last year, it was seen that Virat Kohli was captaining RCB due to the absence of Faf; if that happens, RCB will have to appoint a new captain for their team.

As Virat had already left the captaincy, he might be seen managing the captaincy in the absence of the captain but not be appointed as a full-time skipper’s role.  Royal Challengers Bengaluru had lost to KKR in their last game at Chinnaswamy. The team consists of various experienced players from different country. RCB is a big franchise with loads of fans and supports. After this news is aired, some names can be seen in IPL next season.

  1. RCB will have plans for Glenn Maxwell

The sixth hitter, Maxwell, is from Australia and has been included in this team (RCB)since 2021. He is also likely to skip the next season. Maxwell is an experienced player, so the RCB management might consider it. Glenn Maxwell has done his bit for this team exceptionally well.  Maxwell’s ability to execute unconventional shots like reverse sweeps and pulls quickly makes him challenging to set fields against. While his audacious style of play can be risky, at his best, he can change the course of a game in a matter of moments. Apart from his batting, Maxwell also contributes as a handy off spinner and an outstanding fielder, offering a well-rounded package in one-day and T20 cricket.

He has played over 40 matches and scored nearly 1215 runs with a 161.43 strike rate. Maxwell is one of the leading run scorers for this team. In the past few years, Glenn Maxwell has been in the good books of Royal Challengers Bengaluru. He has played fantastic cricket for years so that he might be an option for captaincy for RCB in the next season of IPL.  He was also seen scoring good runs in the last World Cup 2023.

  1. Cameron Green could be the future skipper of RCB

The young talent from Australia was taken from Mumbai Indians this season of IPL. Green is an exceptional young all-rounder who is representing RCB this year. At 24 years old, he has established himself as a talented right-handed batsman and right-arm off-break bowler. Green has also played for Western Australia and the Perth Scorchers, showcasing his prowess in domestic and franchise cricket. Green’s professional career has brought him financial success and opportunities to play for prestigious teams like the Mumbai Indians in the IPL.

His leadership skills have been evident through his Western Australia Under-23 team captaincy and vice-captaincy of the Perth Scorchers in the Big Bash League. Last season, he made his debut in the IPL for Mumbai Indians. This time, he looks really good with his bat and ball. The young talent is just 24 years old, but if he impresses the management of RCB, he might be seen captaining RCB next season. He is a gem as a player.  Keeping him in the team is a great plus point for any team.

  1. Ben Stokes could be an option to lead RCB

Ben Stokes has been a prominent figure in the Indian Premier League (IPL), showcasing his exceptional cricketing skills and contributing significantly to the teams he has represented. In IPL, Stokes has played for Rising Pune Super giants and Rajasthan Royals, making a mark with his dynamic performances as an all-rounder.

Notably, during the 2017 IPL season, Stokes was named the Most Valuable Player, highlighting his impact on the tournament. But England’s skipper missed out on this year’s IPL, yet he is a highly experienced payer. He might give his name for IPL 2025 to get a new squad. If Faf retires, Ben Stoke might be considered for RCB management. They may not hesitate to sign this talented player from England. Ben has a good record for his country. This player can give a big blow to the audience to return to IPL next season.

IPL 2024: From the run-fest Hyderabad to Parag’s royal knock among top moments of the second week

These are the Three big names for Royal Challengers Bengaluru’s captaincy for next year. These players can give a sweet fuss to other teams. Hence, Faf Du Plessis is an outstanding player with his captaincy, but as he is 39, he has not yet retired from white balls and T20. It is coming as a fuss that he might retire this year. This can be a loss for Royal Challengers Bengaluru, and the decisions are yet to be made.
