On June 27, India, led by captain Rohit Sharma, will attempt to accomplish a goal that has eluded the Men in Blue for the past ten years: earning a spot in the T20 World Cup final. India hasn’t made it to the final since 2014, when Sri Lanka emerged victorious under Lasith Malinga’s guidance.
India’s team, led by the formidable trio of Rohit, Axar, and Kuldeep, displayed sheer dominance as they thoroughly dismantled England in the semifinal, a performance that left cricket enthusiasts feeling proud and excited.
India’s batters showcased their strategic brilliance by amassing a higher-than-average total on a challenging pitch, while their bowlers, with their precision, ripped through England in Providence, leaving the audience impressed and in awe.
England 103 (Brook 25, Kuldeep 3-19, Axar 3-23) lost to India 171 for 7 (Rohit 57, Suryakumar 47, Jordan 3-37) by 68 runs. India is on an excellent path to win a global championship. They haven’t occupied the podium as champions for eleven years. Now, only a few hours and a fierce South African team stand between them and glory.
At the T20 World Cup 2024 semifinal, Rohit Sharma and his team destroyed the reigning champions England, bowling them out for a meagre 103 after batting them around to make 171 at Providence, Guyana. The mismatch from 2022 Adelaide was reversed.
Pitch report and weather for IND vs. ENG
The Providence Stadium, sometimes called Guyana National Stadium, will host the IND versus ENG event in Guyana. At this place, spin usually counts heavily. It is the same stadium where Afghanistan bundled out of New Zealand for seventy-five.
Leg-spinner Rashid Khan and medium-pacer Fazalhaq Farooqi both claimed four wickets, while off-spinner Muhammad Nabi claimed two. Early in the day, a few showers are predicted. AccuWeather reports a 25% probability of rain throughout the game and a 95% chance of cloud cover. It will be about thirty degrees outside with a high humidity of eighty-six percent.
India will go to the final if the match is washed out because they won the group after Super 8 and there isn’t a reserve day. Rain is not anticipated to disrupt the contest, though.
India vs. England: T20 World Cup against each other
India and England have played in four T20 World Cup matches so far, with both teams coming out on top twice. Nevertheless, neither India nor England has managed to win games in a row.
India won the 2007 World Cup after defeating England by 18 runs. England won the 2009 match against India by 3 runs, and in 2012, India won by 90 runs. The events of 2022 will live on in the memories of players like Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli, Suryakumar Yadav, Hardik Pandya, Rishabh Pant, Axar Patel, and Arshdeep Singh. All of these players were on the Indian side that England defeated in the semifinals, led by Jos Buttler.
India’s team is far more evenly matched this time around. Except Kohli, Indian hitters are playing well. This time around, the roster includes Kuldeep Yadav and Jasprit Bumrah. India has won every tournament match thus far, although South Africa defeated England in the June 21 Super 8 match.
Battle strategies under challenging circumstances
Runs square and behind the wicket are precious on a pitch like the one in Guyana, with low bounce and speed. The hitter cannot force the pace if the bowling unit is disciplined enough to hit a solid length and keep the stumps in play. England attempted to shut out half of India’s outfield, but they were only sometimes successful: 69 runs at a strike rate of 192 came from unauthorized places, including eight fours and three sixes.
The danger and Rohit Sharma
During the powerplay, Rohit scored goals with shots he had no control over at a strike rate of 133. In T20Is, his career strike rate is 141, to put things in perspective. India has been looking for a difference like this. Don’t wait for the terrible ball to come up to bat. Bat as though every ball is a nasty one.
In the end, Rohit’s performance was not just about runs, but about inspiration. He found his place and control, scoring 40 runs, including two sixes and four fours. His fearless approach, understanding that risk is part of T20 cricket, left the audience feeling inspired and hopeful for India’s future in the championship.
Rashid’s recuperation
The way that India’s batters manoeuvred within the crease demonstrated their intentions. It was a triumph for even a bowler of Adil Rashid’s calibre to struggle in these conditions since all bowlers needed to do was hit a length to aim for the top of the stumps. The wristspinner from England was 2-0-17-0. However, he bounced back. On the other side of the second rain break, which accounted for 153 minutes of play during the match, Rashid chose to retain a line on off stump rather than worry about Rohit and Suryakumar’s location. As payment, he got the captain of India out for 57 off 39. In his last two overs, Rashid only managed eight runs.
The ruler is spin
India held Shivam Dube back, thinking the quicks would take control after Rashid was out of the game by the fourteenth over. Thus, Buttler saw well in insisting that Liam Livingstone report for duty, having complete faith in his right arm even in the final moments. The part-time worker ended up with a 4-0-24-0 finish. It was an omen. If he were proving to be unbeatable, then so would Axar, Kuldeep, and Ravindra Jadeja. Along with Hardik Pandya, India’s spin-bowling all-rounders, they contributed to their team’s 171 total by hitting three sixes and two fours off of Jordan and Archer’s final two overs.
Kuldeep’s turnabout
When Kuldeep got involved, he tricked Sam Curran and then outwitted Harry Brook, leaving England at 49 for 4. After the 2019 ODI World Cup, England was the team that knocked him out so badly that he disappeared into the white-ball wilderness. Here, he faced an approaching batter and unusual shots as well, but he remained composed. When Kuldeep noticed Brook descending to reverse-sweep, he changed the line to leg stump, which left him entangled.
The ball also avoided the bat swing and crashed into the stumps behind because of its flatter trajectory and faster tempo. Livingstone, the final recognized batter for England, was run out following a mix-up with the lower order, which served as another evidence of their imminent demise. Six of the previous winners scored in the single digits, and none scored more than twenty-five; therefore, they relinquished their title.
The box office Axar
Guyana is conducive to spin. As soon as the schedule was released, it was implied that India would play in the semifinal. They included spinners in their squad. Three made it into the XI. They alternated bowling jaffas. What changed things was Axar.
He replaced Arshdeep Singh with his first ball after Jos Buttler had thrashed the latter for three fours in an over. The captain of England went down to reverse-sweep the left-arm spinner because, honestly, it was impossible to sit in these conditions and play straight-batting. When Rohit had previously taken that risk, he had discovered the limit. Buttler discovered only Pant’s toe end.
Axar lost a wicket off the opening ball in each of their first three overs. Once again, Jonny Bairstow opted to stay leg side and was bowled, and Moeen Ali’s England career ended with him possibly not knowing where the ball had gone until he saw it was in Pant’s hand as he smashed the stumps.
Post Match Statements
‘We understand the occasion,’ says Rohit Sharma the Captain of India. “Winning this game is quite gratifying. As a team, we worked incredibly hard. It took a tremendous effort from everyone to win this game in that manner. We did a great job adapting to the circumstances. We adjusted because it was a challenge. We nailed the conditions. Everything works out as long as the participants follow the rules.
Extremely happy with our performance. As the game progressed, we said another 25 runs after that partnership at one point (we were thinking 140–150). I’m able to mentally set the goal, but I don’t want to tell the batters about it. Each of them is an innate player. On this surface, 170 seemed like a very decent score to me. As gun spinners, Axar and Kuldeep are. Even though they were under pressure to perform well on certain shots, they remained composed and knew just how to bowl. Kohli is a really good player.
That may happen to any athlete. We are aware of his status and significance. Form never poses an issue. There is intention. Definitely (supporting Kohli in the final). As a team, we’ve been really composed. We recognize the moment (final). Making wise choices is aided by maintaining composure. That will enable us to win the game. You must be a competent cricket player. In the end, we want to accomplish that.”
Jos Buttler stated “India undoubtedly outperformed us. We gave them much too many runs (20–25). It was a difficult field that they performed well on. They deserved to win so much. Much different circumstances (than in 2022), props to India. They had an excellent cricket match. I didn’t think the weather would alter all that much with the rain in the forecast.
Think not that it actually did. They outclassed us. They scored higher than expected. Don’t assume that the teams’ differences were due to the toss. They have several excellent spinners. With the manner the spinners were bowling in that innings, in retrospect, I should have bowled Moeen. We are incredibly pleased with everyone’s work. When it counted most, we pulled together and lost. “
The match’s best player is Axar Patel
Live score for India vs. England in the T20 World Cup 2024 semifinal match: “I had to bowl in the powerplay because that was the plan; I had bowled in the powerplay before.” To stop the wicket from stopping and staying low, try to bowl in the appropriate spots. I tried bowling slower in this match because the wicket was moving slowly, and it seemed to help.
If I had bowled faster, it wouldn’t have worked because it would have been simpler for their hitters. Since the wicket wasn’t easy, as our batsmen informed us, 160 was a fair total in our opinion. Rohit and SKY’s partnership was amazing; they alternated strikes and occasionally scored boundaries. Not thinking about Barbados at the moment, will celebrate this player of the match award first.”
