A Journey Through Flavors: The Birth of MyCurryStories

MyCurryStories

Her passion for experimenting with food and cooking for loved ones led her to start documenting her culinary adventures. With a little push from her husband, she launched her Instagram page, MyCurryStories, just before the first COVID-19 lockdown. Initially a passion project, it has evolved into a platform where she share easy recipes, tiffin ideas, and restaurant reviews. Staying consistent and creating engaging content for her audience has been a rewarding challenge. As she continue to learn and grow, her aim is to inspire others to find joy in everyday cooking.

How Did the Journey of MyCurryStories Start?

I have always enjoyed experimenting with food, different flavors and cooking new things, different things. Basically. I enjoy spending time in the kitchen cooking for my friends and loved ones. My husband pushed me into starting the Instagram page so that I could document the things that I enjoy doing. That is how the page mycurrystories was born just a few days before we entered the first lockdown of covid.

What are the Challenges you have faced to be in this position?

No challenges, in particular to be here. However it is a challenge to stay consistent and put out good content for your audience. The food blogging industry is literally a sea and you need to put in a lot of effort to stay afloat.

How have different cultures around the world influenced the development and variety of masalas used in cooking today?

I think there is a lot of history to it and  it will not be possible for me to summarize it in brief. But in a nutshell the spices used in cooking today have evolved with time  and geographical and cultural space. For example,  Indian spices  like garam masala is popular in the north, while the southern Indian has spices with a lot of prominent coconut base and even tamarind. Each of this reflects local tastes, ingredients, and culinary traditions.

The aromatics used in biryanis and kebabs reflect a lot of Persian and Mediterranean influence. We can literally write a book on this.

Talk with us about your special recipes and some of the recipe?

So I don’t think that I have a special recipe, but I enjoy experimenting with flavors and keep doing R&D in my kitchen until I get the best flavors and taste in a dish. Sometimes it takes multiple trials to get it right.

Since I am a parent I am always on the lookout for healthy and tasty meal ideas which are nutritious and also a treat to the tastebuds.  For instance I make a lot of cheelas (savory pancakes) of different kinds and keep working with different ingredients. Different kind of tikkis using oats,  broccoli, soya nuggets, chicken etc. Everyday functional cooking is my Forte I am not  a chef

How has your Instagram page evolved since you first started?

My page purely started as a passion project and is mostly still so. Initially it was just documenting my everyday cooking stories. I would literally share anything and everything that I made or ate, With time I was able to understand what my audience wanted and steered the content in that direction,  so easy recipe videos, tiffin ideas, some restaurant/eatery reviews etc.

I am also making an attempt to shoot videos and photographs more aesthetically and while I am getting better , the learning will not stop. I am always looking for ways to get better and expand. It has been a slow journey but we are moving and that is important.

What advice would you like to give to someone who wants to start a food page?

Find your niche and stick to that don’t toggle between many things,  it may confuse your audience and YOU as well.  Creative content and consistency can help you go a long way, I think I still struggle in this aspect but working on it.

Engage with your audience,  network with people who have a similar niche.  Stay up to date with the latest trends. Invest in good filming gear and cooking gear (whenever you can,  I still don’t have the best).Ask for audience feedback and be open to learning.
